Her Mother drew and her Aunt was a sculptor and they both encouraged Susan’s creative efforts. Her first drawings were of spirals, women, and cars. She began her grid-like drawings in the 1980’s around the same period that she began working at Friendly’s restaurant as a dishwasher. Susan began painting on cardboard at this time because it was readily available at work. Her art reflects an eclectic interest in portraiture, architecture, transportation, and landscapes. She particularly enjoys making artwork about subways and the Long Island Railroad.
Most of her work is based on her actual prodigious memories and life experiences. Her pieces are included in numerous private and corporate collections.
Her work was featured on a CBS Sunday Morning Show segment on Outsider Art, and in publications such as Envision Folk Art Magazine and Out of Art.
