WELCOME to STROKES OF GENIUS!
The specific and primary purpose of Strokes of Genius is to educate and empower individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) by promoting the artistic abilities in contrast to the disabilities. Strokes of Genius builds and supports these artistic talents through the provision of educational art studio experiences and workshops to “Train the Talent” ℠ and further expand opportunities toward inclusion and independence as a vehicle for the individual’s livelihood.
Our aim is to encourage, celebrate and support the artistic talents of such individuals by providing opportunities for exposure of the artworks including paintings, drawings and sculptures on an international, as well as local level. We strive to develop and maintain partnerships that support excellence in the arts, both new and established by bringing the arts to all communities and all people. Through the creation of opportunities for broad public outreach as well as public accessibility to the arts, we hope to remove existing barriers for our artists and to encourage the widest possible participation.
We are dedicated to fostering an understanding of works of art by disseminating knowledge and information to the general public and providing aesthetically enhancing experiences by way of art exhibitions, sales and auctions.
The original art exhibition “Don’t “dis” the ability” was intended to support artists on the spectrum toward becoming self-sufficient as artists. This initiative has flourished from a single local exhibition to a traveling exhibition across the United States. In acknowledgement of our participating artists we recognize that these individuals deserve appreciation not solely as “artists with autism” but as “artists” in their own right. Strokes of Genius will continue along this mission to create awareness and to provide education.
Strokes of Genius is innovatively committed to expanding social responsibility by way of inclusionary initiatives. Our vision incorporates the following goals:
•
To raise awareness of the “Abilities” of artists on the autism spectrum
•
To “Train the Talent” through the provision of art workshops/ curriculum
•
To provide certification in TTT to art therapists.
•
To introduce young students with ASD to an art studio experience
•
To create mentoring roles through inclusion for savant artists as instructors for young children interested in art to
improve overall academic potential
•
To host and participate in events and educational conferences
•
To create and increase exhibition opportunities for savant artists
•
To establish a Strokes of Genius traveling exhibition where artists on the spectrum can exhibit their extraordinary
works as “artists” as opposed to “artists with autism” alongside mainstream recognized artists.
