Her passions are art, music, books, videos, swimming and ice skating and her favorite time of the year is Christmas and snow. Emily is an honest, pure, loving, talented, fascinating individual and her family is so proud of her!
Emily was diagnosed at age two. Her mother had worked with autistic young adults one summer and after recognizing some behavior’s, pushed for an early diagnosis. Emily’s mum set up “child led” early intervention programs from home. These were considered not too intensive or intrusive. She attended a main stream primary with full time support but is now in a special needs secondary school which she seems to really enjoy.
Emily started to draw when she was seven and her work has become increasingly complicated and subtle with real maturity. She began to use the 'paint' program on the computer about two years ago. It is incredible to see how adept she is at using all the intricate tools such as zooming for detail and slight color alterations with a normal mouse. It is captivating to watch. She works very quickly and can produce 30 detailed illustrations in a few hours which she then likes to post to neighbors, who in turn all put them up in their windows so that Emily can see them when walking past.

Emily works without interaction and is totally engrossed and in control of her
images - almost as though she has to 'release' them. She works at her des
in the evenings while singing along to her precious videos and DVD's.
Disney is a huge favorite, although she creates a lot of 70's animation which
is often more simplified, hand drawn and without speech.
Emily is almost non-verbal and her world is totally a visual and for her, most of the time an incredibly joyous place. She learns and repeats a lot of favorite video phrases which are not always easy to decipher. They are often more to do with the lilt and rhythm of the sentence than the content.
