AUTISM INFORMATION
Connor King
Independence, Mississippi
Born July 2001

Connor is 10 years old.  He is in the 5th grade and is home schooled.
Connor lives at home with his mother and father, an older brother, and
a younger sister.

Connor was diagnosed with PDD/Autism at 2 1/2 years old.
He began early intervention at that time and is still receiving Speech,
Occupational, Physical therapy, and Behavioral services as well as
biomedical treatment.

Autism affects Connor socially.  He does not always know how to
interact with his peers or join in on group activities.  Social stories and
role playing are often used in order for him to understand how to play
and interact socially.

His sensory system is heightened.  He is sensitive to bright and flashing lights.
Different noises and certain pitches affect his behavior as well. Connor also walks on his toes.

Although his receptive language appears to be at age level,  his expressive language is delayed.

Connor began reading and drawing detailed pictures at the age of 3.  At this time he drew mostly
maps of his community and street signs.  As he has gotten older his depth and perception of his
drawings have dramatically increased.  He continues to draw maps, vehicles, and amazing
dimensional pictures all from memory.  He is currently taking art lessons to cultivate his art gift.

Connor also has an amazing love for praise and worship music.  He is a self taught piano player.
He has perfect pitch on the piano and voice.  He is also receiving music lessons to cultivate this gift
as well.

“Kudos to this family for understanding the importance of “training the talent”!
Dr. Rosa C. Martinez
